Snow Canyon State Park, Utah
Red and white Navajo sandstone cliffs, 180-million-year-old petrified sand dunes, and black lava flows from an extinct volcano combine across 7,400 acres near Ivins. Accessible lava tubes formed some 27,000 years ago wind beneath the surface, while trails wander among the cross-bedded rock formations. Hikers, climbers, and cyclists explore terrain shared with the threatened Mojave desert tortoise.
