Goblin Valley State Park, Utah
Wander among thousands of mushroom-shaped hoodoos carved from 170-million-year-old Entrada sandstone in a valley so otherworldly it's doubled as an alien planet on film. Spread across nearly 10,000 acres near Hanksville, these whimsical "goblins" formed as wind and water wore away softer rock, leaving harder caps balanced on narrow stems. Hike, scramble, or camp beneath some of the darkest night skies in Utah.
